Newborn Session

What to expect:

Newborn sessions are best between 4-10 days of babies first days. This is when the baby is most likely to go into a deep sleep and allow us to pose them into those adorable newborn poses.

Please let me know in advance if you would like to do any family/sibling portraits.

Congratulations on your new baby! I am so excited and honored to have been chosen to photograph this precious moment in your life.

How to Prepare for your session:

Parents: Dress comfortably. The room is heated to approximately 80 degrees for the babies comfort but this can sometimes be a bit too much for parents. Sessions generally last 2-3 hours and I want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Bring a bottle of water and even a granola bar if you need to eat during the session.

I recommend earth tone colored shirts (white/black/brown/cream,etc.) and absolutely no patterns. Patterns can distract from the baby and harsh colors can cause light reflections on the skin.

Baby: A hungry baby is more likely to be restless so it is a good idea to start the session when the baby has a full tummy. You can choose to feed your baby right before you come to the session, or right when you get here (recommended if you are traveling more than 20 minutes to get to the studio). I am happy to leave the room so mom and baby can have some privacy.

Your baby will be photographed without any outfits on (hats/headbands/wraps are often used). Because of this, it is best to have your baby in an outfit that is easy to remove once you arrive. I like zip up jammies because they don’t need to get pulled over the head. The less your baby is disturbed in the undressing process the sooner we can begin the session.

If you have any special hats, headbands, props etc. that you would like the baby to be photographed with, please bring those along. I can not guarantee that we will use them, but it is nice to have them there as an option.

If you have a vision for a special image, please let me know in advance!

If you use a pacifier, please bring that along as well. That can be a great soothing tool during posing.

During the Session: Now that baby is fed and all tuckered out, I will take them from you. From there I will begin the photographs. Safety is the most important part of a newborn session. I will often have a parent sitting next to the posing bag or prop so the baby is never left alone. Parents will also play a role in posing positions.

It is very normal to have to feed and change the baby during the session.

After the session: I ask for approximately 2 weeks to have your digital gallery ready for viewing and downloading. I always post a teaser image on my fb business page. If you would not like an image posted online please let me know.
